Courthouse wedding days are some of my favorites. They're an ADHD-friendly whirlwind of fast-paced events, emotions that spill over the surface, and particularly in Annapolis, they have a gorgeous setting for photos. The Annapolis Courthouse, AKA the Anne Arundel County Courthouse, is easily my favorite spot for courthouse weddings in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area.
Looking back at this wedding from last year, I almost forgot it happened in the spring. It was cold, the trees were mostly bare, and I had to edit out a lot of redness from practically frostbitten extremities. But it was so beautiful, I just had to write about it as we go into the fall wedding season, where we'll start to re-experience a world where the only warmth we know comes from the sun's golden glow. And for those looking to plan a courthouse wedding in the late winter/early spring, just know that we can make do with any kind of weather.
No matter how many times I photograph at the Annapolis Courthouse, I manage to find a new little portrait location in the immediate vicinity of the building. Or a new pocket of golden light. Or a new puddle of water that I can use to reflect my couple in as they lean in for a romantic moment. The classic spots never get old, and the new spots are always so exciting to come across.
Vanessa and Max were an incredible couple for me to photograph. I always want our sessions to be collaborative and will never be offended by an idea for a new pose, and they both were super artistically-minded, so we clicked beautifully. I found out that they found me by searching for photographers in Rockville; they conveniently lived in an apartment building across the street from me.
And I'm so glad we met. I loved many of these photos so much that I actually printed some of them for the couple as a surprise -- a testament to both how great of a time we had together and how happy we were with the final product.
